Union Bank of Cameroon (UBC) is a commercial bank licensed in 1999 and officially opened to the public in January 2000. Created from Cameroon’s cooperative banking movement led by the Cameroon Cooperative Credit Union League (CamCCUL), the bank serves individuals, businesses and financial institutions across several regions of Cameroon. Its mission is to provide comprehensive banking services through customer-focused operations supported by appropriate technology.

UBC (Union Bank) is an African bank specializing in financing and supporting microfinance institutions. As banking markets evolved and regulatory expectations increased, the bank reviewed its innovation strategy to better support its ecosystem and expand access to financial services. By relying on SBS Core Amplitude, UBC is pursuing a progressive transformation tailored to local realities.

“We must follow market developments, but not blindly. The challenge is to innovate while remaining adapted to the realities of the populations we serve.”

They chose SBS

UBC needed to support the transformation of a network of nearly 400 microfinance institutions operating at very different levels of maturity. The bank was also facing the rise of new digital banking models in markets where banking penetration remains low. At the same time, it wanted to address structural barriers to financial inclusion, including language barriers and the complexity of banking tools for rural communities. The project aimed to structure operations, improve network management and create greater consistency while maintaining the flexibility required by local market conditions.
