Isabel, what is your role exactly within wholesale finance ?

I’m a Business Analyst for SFP Wholesale Servicing. My work involves liaising with clients to gather their requirements, writing user stories, implementing changes, creating documentation, and running training sessions. A big part of it is also maintaining strong, confident relationships with clients to keep the project moving smoothly.

Typically, we step in right after the client signs the deal. From that point on, we’re involved throughout the entire project lifecycle: from initial requirement gathering to implementation, user testing, and finally, go-live. Even after the system goes live, we continue to provide support to make sure everything runs smoothly and clients are fully comfortable with the new environment. It’s a role that demands both technical precision and strong interpersonal skills.

Can you give us a concrete example of a project you are working on?

Absolutely. Right now, I’m working on the LEAP project with Lombard. They’re transitioning from our old V5 system to the new SFP-Wholesale Servicing platform. We need to understand their specific needs, identify any gaps between the systems, and make sure they can continue their operations seamlessly on the new platform.

Isabel Marshall-Baquedano, a Business Analyst at SBS

How do you approach gathering and analyzing data for your projects?

We start by analyzing the client’s current system to get a broad understanding of how they operate. Then we hold detailed meetings with the client to dive deeper into their specific use cases. It’s a combination of system review and direct collaboration.

Why is your role important for SBS?

As business analysts, we’re here to make sure decision-makers have the right information at the right time to make smart choices. We work with a lot of different teams and stakeholders, making sure everyone’s on the same page. Our job is really about gathering requirements from concept through to creation, managing expectations, and keeping everything aligned so that the decisions being made are based on clear, accurate data. At the end of the day, it’s all about turning information into real business insights—and that’s what helps drive the success of both our projects and SBS as a whole.

What are some of the biggest challenges you face in wholesale finance?

The main challenge is the ever-changing business requirements. The wholesale finance landscape can shift quickly due to regulatory changes, market trends, or new technologies. This means that solutions we designed a few months ago sometimes need to be rethought and adapted.

Of all the projects you’ve worked on, which one fascinated you the most?

Definitely the LEAP project. Because it’s so large and long-term, it has given me a chance to learn about different areas of the SFP-Wholesale Servicing system and the broader business process flow. It’s been a great opportunity to deepen my technical and functional expertise.

What do you enjoy most about your role within wholesale finance?

I love the constant learning. Wholesale finance is always evolving—with new regulations, technologies, and business models—so no two days are ever the same. I also really enjoy the collaboration side of the job: engaging directly with clients and stakeholders and building strong, lasting relationships.

Last question—what’s the most important lesson you’ve learned so far in your career?

Adaptability. Especially in wholesale finance, things change fast. Being flexible and open to new ideas is key to staying relevant and delivering solutions that really make a difference.
