Advans is a leading international microfinance group established in 2005. Its vision is to build a model group of financial institutions which contribute to strengthening local businesses, creating and sustaining jobs and improving clients’ living standards in order to foster private sector-led economic and social development in Africa, the Middle-East and Asia. Its mission is to respond to the need for financial services of small businesses and other populations who have ill-adapted, limited or no access to formal financial services through providing tailored financial services in a sustainable and responsible manner.

Discover how Advans makes financial services accessible to populations that are often excluded from the banking system, notably in Ghana, Cameroon and the Republic of Congo, by relying on digital transformation and the deployment of SBS’s Amplitude core banking, launched in 2020 in Tunisia and progressively extended to the group’s subsidiaries. Five subsidiaries have already migrated, and the last one is under way.

In this interview, Gaël Briot, Head of Business Applications at Advans, explains how the organisation supports more than 750,000 people across 6 countries, farmers, small entrepreneurs and traders, and how SBS sustains this growth in terms of efficiency.

They chose SBS

Present in six African countries, from Tunisia to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Advans supports more than 750,000 traders, small entrepreneurs and farmers who often have little or no access to financial services.

The group had to meet three challenges: growing regulatory demands around compliance, reporting and cybersecurity, sharper competition from banks, telcos and fintechs, and a market growing very fast, on the order of 20 to 25% a year. To meet them, Advans launched its digitalisation programme around 2020-2021, with the core banking change as the prerequisite.

The project carried out with SBS was to deploy the Amplitude core banking, first in Tunisia and then across all subsidiaries, to improve efficiency and, through APIs, open up a range of digital services for clients and teams alike.

Interview with the Head of Business Applications

In this episode of Between Us, Gaël Briot, Head of Business Applications at Advans, explains how Advans facilitates access to financial services for populations often excluded from the banking system, particularly in Ghana, Cameroon, and the Republic of Congo.

With over 750,000 people supported across 6 countries (including farmers, small business owners, and shopkeepers) Advans relies on digitalization to improve efficiency.

This is made possible through the rollout of the Amplitude core banking system, launched in 2022 in Tunisia and progressively extended to the group’s subsidiaries. Five have already migrated, with the last one currently underway. SBS is supporting Advans’ growth every step of the way.
