When we talk about financial technology, the numbers are striking. While over 70% of women have bank accounts, only one in three actively use them. This means that the majority of women access banking services through male family members. Financial and technical literacy among women remains low and is rarely promoted—regardless of geography. For example, women are 8% less likely than men to own a mobile phone, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Even as computing evolves with machine learning and generative AI, the data we’ve been collecting remains biased. It’s high time we take corrective measures. The way we shape technology today will influence behaviors, routines, and values in the future. And we want that future to be good—sustainable, inclusive, and scalable.

Is your banking app unintentionally biased?
In this powerful episode, we dive into how gender bias in AI isn’t just a tech problem—it’s a sustainability issue, too. Join Bettina Vaccaro Carbone (Head of Sustainability at SBS), Dana Lunburry ( Head of Data, Analytics & AI at SBS), and Shalien Kishore (Head of Product Design at SBS)—as they break down the hidden connections between inclusive technology and environmental impact : Why does AI often disadvantage women and marginalized communities? How can fairer algorithms also be greener? What are banks doing to design apps that really work for everyone?
From practical design tips and energy-efficient models to the business sense behind ethical AI, this episode will shift how you think about your tech—and who it serves.
Tune in and discover how we can build AI that’s not only smarter, but also fairer, greener, and better for everyone.
